Our Foundation
Cedar Path (Awtossis Kakskus) Foundation is an Indigenous-led, community-based non-profit located in Fredericton, New Brunswick. We work alongside Indigenous youth and families to support well-being, safety, and long-term community strength across Wabanaki territory.
Our name reflects the Cedar Path, a symbol of protection, resilience, and healing. For us, it represents walking with people in a good way, grounded in relationship, respect, and accountability to community.
Our work is relationship-first and trauma-informed. We meet youth where they are, listen before acting, and respond with culturally grounded and practical supports. Culture is not an add-on to our work; it is the foundation that guides how we show up and how we support change.
Cedar Path Foundation delivers community-based programs, including Pathways to Growth, and Aligew, Indigenous initiatives focused on prevention, leadership development, and reducing risks related to substance use, violence, and justice system involvement. This work is rooted in cultural connection, mentorship, and wrap-around support for youth and their families.
We believe lasting change happens through trust, consistency, and community-driven solutions, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
We aim to walk alongside Indigenous youth and families by providing support that is trauma-informed, culturally rooted, and built on trust, respect, and consistency.
We work to reduce risks related to drugs, gang involvement, and system contact by offering early intervention, mentorship, cultural connection, and practical life supports.
We seek to build safer, healthier communities by working with Elders, service providers, and local systems, while remaining accountable to the communities we serve.
Our work is simple and people-first, rooted in New Brunswick and Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqey communities. We speak plainly, act with respect, and lead with hope. We focus on what works, start small, and stay committed for the long term.
